Update Your Aadhaar Details Free: In the month of June this year, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) extended the deadline for updating details on Aadhaar card online for free by three months. Earlier this year, UIDAI allowed citizens of the country to update their Aadhaar card details online for free. This means that now all Aadhaar card holders can make changes in their Aadhaar card, if necessary, till 14 September. This initiative is part of Digital India wherein UIDAI is urging residents to avail free document update facility on My Aadhaar Portal.

Announcement of this three-month campaign in March

Initially it was scheduled till June 14, 2023. UIDAI had announced this three-month campaign in March. The campaign is applicable to those citizens who had issued their Aadhaar ten years back and have not updated since then. To avail the facility, one needs to submit proof of identity and address on the official website. Usually it costs Rs 50 to update each Aadhaar card details. Please note that free updates are only available on changes made online. It is not available at physical Aadhaar centres. For your information, let us tell you that UIDAI has specified that users can upload proof of their identity and address by September 14, 2023.

Why update your Aadhaar?

UIDAI is asking residents to upload Proof of Identity and Proof of Address (POI/POA) documents to re-verify their demographic details, especially if Aadhaar card was issued more than 10 years ago and never updated Was. The organization says that this will help in improving service delivery and increasing the certification success rate. If there is a need to change demographic details (name, date of birth, address, etc.), residents can use the regular online update service, or visit the nearest Aadhaar centre. Normal charges will be applicable in such cases.

Steps to Update Aadhaar Details Online

• Go to the Aadhaar Self Service Portal on the official website of UIDAI.

• Login to the portal using Aadhaar number and captcha. An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number to authenticate the process.

• Go to the document update section and check the existing details.

• Select the appropriate document type from the drop-down list and upload the scanned copies of the original documents.

• Click on the submit button. Note down the Service Request Number (SRN) to track the status of the application request.

Around 1,200 government schemes and programs run by both the central and state governments use Aadhaar-based identification for delivery of services. Telecom companies etc. also use Aadhaar to authenticate and connect customers with them.
