Khelo India campaign has taken the form of revolution: Anurag

Varanasi (Best Hindu News): Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said on Saturday that the Khelo India campaign has taken the form of a revolution as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Anurag Singh Thakur and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the closing ceremony of Khelo India University Games 2022 in Varanasi. Thakur said, “Today I am very satisfied that the Khelo India campaign has taken the form of a revolution as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Khelo India Games are organized in the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat where athletes from diverse backgrounds participate and share their diversity on one platform. It is concerned with sporting excellence and building disciplined, dedicated and duty-oriented youth in the service of the nation. The Khel India University Games have become the biggest platform for talent identification within the country in sports.

In this competition, Panjab University stood first, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar second and Jain University of Karnataka stood third.

The Union Sports Minister said that Uttar Pradesh has successfully organized the Khelo India University Games 2022 under the effective leadership of Yogi ji in hot and difficult times. The Khelo India University Games have become a great platform for the youth of the country to showcase themselves from all social backgrounds. He cited the examples of Kundu from Bengal, rugby player Nirmala Rao from Odisha, rugby player Bharat Chauhan, son of a fishmonger, volleyball player Shreyansh from Varanasi and judo player Smita Dey from Tripura and said they all came from humble families but worked hard to excel. Adverse circumstances have not come in their way.

Anurag Singh Thakur said that India is currently performing brilliantly in all fields so how can it lag behind in sports. India’s medal tally in international competitions is increasing day by day. This has been possible due to providing all kinds of facilities to the players and boosting their morale under the leadership of the Prime Minister. During the program, tributes were paid to the people killed during the train accident in Orissa.

He said that the Prime Minister has paid a lot of attention to further develop the sports culture in the country and encourage the youth of the country to take up sports. Various schemes have been launched by the government to support budding sportspersons and efforts have been made to strengthen the sports ecosystem in the country. The organization of Khelo India University Games is another great step in this direction.

This year the third edition of Khelo India University Games was organized in Uttar Pradesh from 25 May to 3 June. These sports competitions were held in Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Gautam Buddha Nagar. Over 4750 athletes from over 200 universities participated in these games and competed in 21 events. The mascot of this edition of Khelo India University Games has been Jitu, the state animal of UP, Barasingha.
