New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul has received approval from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but he has been advised not to take on too much workload in the beginning.
Rahul was injured again during the first Test match played against England in Hyderabad. There was a possibility of him joining the team for the third match but due to muscle stiffness he could not play in the remaining matches.
Rahul has posted a video of him practicing batting, wicketkeeping drills and fielding in the outfield at the NCA.
BCCI sources told PTI on condition of anonymity, “NCA has given clearance to Rahul to play and he will join the team in Lucknow on Thursday (March 20). Lucknow team will play its first match on March 24 against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. He has been advised not to do wicketkeeping initially and will play as a pure batsman in the initial matches.
However, Lucknow is not worried about his lack of wicketkeeping as they have two good wicketkeepers in the form of South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran. Puran will also play the role of vice captain in the team this year.
However, it is very important for Rahul to play as a wicketkeeper batsman because on the basis of this he can stake his claim for the T20 World Cup to be held in America and West Indies in June.
