KL Rahul: Suryakumar and Sanju Samson’s leaves will be cut? KL Rahul’s return in Asia Cup almost certain

A source in the know said, “Rahul showed excellent fitness levels by batting and keeping wickets for a long time (Friday) in the ‘Match Simulation’ (match conditions) program at NCA.” He said, ‘He started batting from the beginning of this week and now he has also started wicketkeeping.’
Rahul’s return to top-level cricket looks imminent but Shreyas Iyer, currently recovering from injury at the NCA, may have to wait a little longer. Shreyas has also been training in match conditions at the NCA and the middle-order batsman has shown a lot of improvement in fitness. However, the final decision regarding Shreyas can be taken only in the next two days.
Rahul’s return will reduce a huge burden on the Indian team management as he can cement a spot in the middle order. Rahul has an excellent record batting at number four in ODIs, scoring 241 runs in seven innings at an average of 40.17, including one hundred.
At number five, Rahul has scored 742 runs in 18 innings at an average of 53, including one century and seven half-centuries. In Rahul’s absence, the Indian ‘think tank’ experimented with Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson in the middle order, but neither of them found consistent performance. Rahul played his last ODI for India against Australia in Chennai on 22 March.
He suffered a thigh injury during Lucknow Super Giants’ match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2023, which ruled him out of cricket. Later he underwent surgery for it, after which he remained in ‘rehabilitation’.
