Bengaluru. Virat Kohli became the leading run-scorer in the ongoing edition of the ICC ODI World Cup during the match against Netherlands at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.
Kohli reached the milestone during his innings of 51 and finished the league stage of the tournament with 594 runs. South Africa’s Quinton de Kock has scored 591 runs in the league stage.
Unfortunately, Virat Kohli could not score his 50th ODI century and became the victim of left-arm spinner Roelof van der Merwe in the 29th over.
Earlier, Indian captain Rohit Sharma played a stormy inning of 61 runs with the help of eight fours and two sixes and broke Sourav Ganguly’s two decade old World Cup record. As captain, Ganguly scored 465 runs in 11 innings with three centuries (highest score of 111) in the 2003 World Cup.
In contrast, Rohit has now scored an impressive 503 runs in just nine innings during the World Cup 2023 which includes one century (131 runs) and three half-centuries.
