Ahmedabad. India batsman Virat Kohli on Sunday overtook former Australian captain Ricky Ponting to become the second highest run-scorer in the ODI World Cup during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 final against Australia.

Additionally, India captain Rohit Sharma moved up to fourth position, overtaking Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara.

While Kohli overtook Ponting by scoring 1744 runs in 37 innings, Rohit overtook Sangakkara by scoring 1560 runs in 28 innings.

India’s great batsman Sachin Tendulkar is at the top with 2278 runs in 44 innings, while former Australia captain Ponting is at the third position with 1743 runs in 42 innings.

Additionally, Rohit also overtook New Zealand’s Kane Williamson in terms of scoring the most World Cup runs in a single edition as captain during the Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Rohit, with his 29th run, overtook Williamson’s tally of 578 runs, which came in the 2019 edition. He was out to Glenn Maxwell in the 10th over on the score of 47 runs and ended his campaign with 597 runs.

At the time of writing this report, India were 97-3 in 15 overs with Kohli (32*) and KL Rahul (8*) batting.
