Kyrgios out of Wimbledon with wrist injury

London. Nick Kyrgios, who reached the men’s singles final of the Wimbledon Championships last year, has been ruled out of this year’s tournament due to a wrist injury.
The 28-year-old Australian had lost to Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final, Xinhua reported. He also reached the quarterfinals at the US Open.
He was sidelined for nearly six months after undergoing knee surgery in January and lost to China’s Wu Yibing in his first match on his return at the Stuttgart Open last month.
Kyrgios wrote on social media, “I am very sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year. I did my best to step onto the Wimbledon courts after my surgery. During my return, I Experiencing some pain in my wrist while preparing for Mallorca (The Open).”
Kyrgios said, “As a precaution, I had a scan and it showed a torn ligament in my wrist. I tried everything to be able to play and I’m disappointed to say that I don’t have enough time to heal before Wimbledon.” No time for it.”
He added, “I will be back and, as always, I appreciate all of my fans’ support.”
This year’s Wimbledon Championships begin on Monday. Djokovic, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, will begin his title defense with a first round match against Argentina’s Pedro Cachin.(IANS)
