Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy make winning debut in All England Badminton Championship

India’s Lakshya Sen And HS Pranay Badminton made it to the second round of the men’s singles tournament with a hard-fought win here on Tuesday. Sen made a close first round exit to fifth seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei 21-18, 21-19 in 48 minutes. This is Almora’s 21-year-old Lakshya’s first win against the world number five player. Earlier, he had to face defeat against Tien Chen in two matches.
Prannoy will take on Indonesia’s Sinisuka Ginting
Earlier, world number nine Indian player HS Prannoy defeated Xu Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei 21-19 22-20 in straight games in 49 minutes. With this win, Prannoy’s win-loss record against Wang became 5-3. The 30-year-old Prannoy from Kerala will take on third seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia in the next round. Lakshya will play against the winner of the match between Anders Antonsson and Rasmus Gemke in the next round.
Prannoy won in straight sets
Pranay looked in good shape. She started well and took five consecutive points to take an 11-4 lead at the break in the first game. The Indian, however, hit a few shots outside and on the net after that to make it 11-14 for Wang. Prannoy scored 18-12 with four consecutive points but Wang took advantage of the weakness of the Indian player to score 16-19. After this, Prannoy hit two shots in a row, due to which the score became 19-19.
This is how Prannoy won the match
Prannoy got game point with a cross court smash and then won the first game with another smash. In the second game, a tough competition was seen from the beginning. Wang made a 7-2 lead. Prannoy, however, came back strongly and took a slight lead of 11-10 till the break. After this both the players were equal on the score of 16-16. Prannoy made it 19-17 with two good returns but then gave Wang a chance to make a comeback and level the scores at 19-19. Wang shot outside and gave Prannoy the match point but he could not take advantage of it. Prannoy, however, kept his composure and won the match with Wang hitting the net.
