Christchurch: Tom Latham will lead New Zealand in the home T20 series against Sri Lanka next month. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) gave this information on Monday. NZC reported that Latham, who is returning to the shortest format of the game after nearly two years, will also lead the Kiwis on the tour of Pakistan. The T20 series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka will be played from April 2, while New Zealand’s tour of Pakistan will start from April 14.
Meanwhile, Latham has been handed over the reins of the Black Caps as Kane Williamson and Tim Southee are busy with the Indian Premier League (IPL).
New Zealand coach Mike Stead said, “We saw Tom’s ability and his shot selection against India this year. He has taken command of an inexperienced T20 team on the tour of Bangladesh in 2021 and we were very impressed with his captaincy skills during Kovid.
Latham’s team will face Sri Lanka in Auckland, Dunedin and Queenstown in the first week of April before traveling to Pakistan to play five T20Is in Lahore (three) and Rawalpindi (two) from April 14 to 24. Sri Lanka and Pakistan New Zealand squad for T20I series: Tom Latham (c), Chad Bowes, Mark Chapman, Matt Henry, Ben Lister, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Seifert (Sri Lanka series only), Henry Shipley, Ish Sodhi , Will Young.
