Buenos Aires: Gunmen opened fire at a supermarket linked to Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi’s family with a threatening text message. This information was given by the local police. However, no one was injured in Thursday morning’s attack. It was not clear why the attackers targeted the Unico supermarket in Rosario, the country’s third largest city.
The supermarket is owned by the family of his wife, Antonella Roccuzzo. The city’s mayor, Pablo Javaquin, visited the supermarket in Rosario and lambasted federal authorities for their failure to stop drug-related violence. Rosario is located approximately 190 miles (300 kilometers) northwest of the country’s capital, Buenos Aires.
Police said two men on a motorcycle fired more than 12 shots at the Unico supermarket in the early hours. He left a message there which read, ‘Messi, we are waiting for you. Javakin is also a drug smuggler, so he will not be able to take care of you.’
Messi, one of the greatest players in the world, is yet to comment on the matter. Under his leadership, in December this year, Argentina won the World Cup title after a long gap of 36 years. He is currently playing for Paris Saint-Germain and spends most of his time abroad. He often visits Rosario where he has a home in the Funes suburbs.
