Doha: India Maharajas suffered their second consecutive defeat in the Legends League cricket tournament being played in Qatar. World Giants beat India Maharajas by two runs on Saturday night. Captain Gautam Gambhir’s second successive fifty went in vain, before Asia Lions also defeated India Maharajas in the opening match on Friday night. In the midst of this heartbreaking defeat, Harbhajan Singh’s killer bowling has captivated the whole world. In two overs, Bhajji took four big wickets for just 13 runs, in which three victims were done in one over.
Actually, World Giants captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to bat first. He opened the innings with Chris Gayle but the former West Indies opener could not do much damage to the Bharat Maharaja bowlers as he was dismissed by veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh in the third over itself. A slow ball bowled outside the leg stump, Gayle wanted to leave it thinking it was a wide, but taking a sharp turn, the ball went straight into the leg stump. After ending Gayle’s innings for 4 runs, Bhajji got his next chance in the 16th over.
This was Turbanator’s second over, in which he took three victims in six balls. After getting Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien (4) caught by Mohammad Kaif on the first ball, Ross Taylor (1) was dismissed on the third ball and Morne van Wyk (1) on the fifth. He gave only two runs in this over. It was from here that the progress of the world giants was also curbed. At one point the score seemed to easily cross 200 runs, which was later restricted to 166/8. Meanwhile, captain Aaron Finch scored 53 while Shane Watson scored 55. India Maharaja tried his best to chase down the target of 167 runs, but could not get success. Captain Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa gave a good start together, but after that there was no good partnership. Gautam Gambhir scored 68 runs in 42 balls. Ricardo Povol was the most successful bowler for World Giants, taking 2/16 in 3 overs.
