Lucknow won under the captaincy of Nicholas Puran

IPL 2024: India got a new star in fast bowling, who took three wickets for 27 runs and played a key role in helping Lucknow Super Giants win by 21 runs over Punjab Kings in the IPL match on Saturday. He is none other than Mayank Yadav. Batting first, Lucknow scored 199 runs for eight wickets on the basis of Krunal Pandya’s aggressive batting in the last overs. Opener Quinton de Kock scored 54 runs in 38 balls. While acting captain Nicholas Puran played an inning of 42 runs in 21 balls.

Krunal Pandya scored 43 runs in 22 balls with two sixes and four fours and in reply to the team’s score of close to two hundred, Lucknow registered its first win in this season on the basis of Mayank’s bowling. Punjab team could score only 178 runs for five wickets in 20 overs.

The absence of Liam Livingstone was felt at number four, who did not play in that order due to injury. He remained unbeaten after scoring 28 runs in 17 balls. Mayank Yadav bowled the fastest ball of the tournament at a speed of 155.8 km per hour in the 12th over of Punjab’s innings.

Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma could not face his balls. Shikhar Dhawan scored 70 runs in 50 balls and Bairstow scored 42 runs in 29 balls. Punjab’s score in the powerplay was 61 runs without any loss. Dhawan completed his half-century by hitting a six off Ravi Bishnoi.

Bairstow hit Krunal for two sixes and took Punjab beyond 100 in the 11th over. Bishnoi gave only three runs in the next over due to which Bairstow thought of giving advice to Mayank’s balls and lost his wicket. Prabhasimran became his second victim after scoring 19 runs in seven balls. At the same time, Jitesh also could not face his speed.

Earlier, KL Rahul, who was playing as ‘impact player’ in this match after handing over the captaincy to Nicholas Pooran, could not leave any impact. Even after getting a lease of life, he was caught by Jonny Bairstow at backward point on Arshdeep’s ball.

Devdutt Padikal hit two fours but lost his wicket on the ball of Sam Curran. Marcus Stoinis (19) hit two sixes but was bowled by Rahul Chahar. After this, Puran came on the field and scored 20 runs by hitting Chahar with two sixes and a four.

De Kock completed his half-century in 34 balls. Lucknow’s run flow stopped due to strategic time out and De Kock was caught by Arshdeep behind the wicket at the hands of Jitesh Sharma. Puran was dismissed by Rabada. But as soon as Krunal came, he started playing with open arms and gave a strong score to the team.
