Dhoni’s lawyer PS Raman argued in the court – The allegations made by the officer (G Sampath Kumar) are highly condemnable. He is a retired IPS officer. What does he want to achieve? He further said – It is all related to the game of cricket. The Mudgal Commission looked into this. The Supreme Court took note of this. Why is a police officer worried now?
The court asked the parties to place the order dated March 8, 2014 passed by the single judge and all other relevant documents. The hearing of the case has been adjourned till August 31. It is noteworthy that Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, had approached the Madras High Court in a match-fixing case.
The 5-time IPL champion captain Dhoni had filed a civil suit in 2014 to restrain the then Inspector General of Police Sampath Kumar from giving any statement on the matter involving him (Dhoni) in match-fixing and spot-fixing. He had also requested the court to direct him to pay Rs 100 crore as damages. Later, on March 18, 2014, the court passed an interim order restraining Sampath Kumar from making any statement regarding Dhoni.
