Maharashtra Ironmen beat Telugu Talons in seventh match of Premier Handball League

Jaipur. Maharashtra Ironmen beat Telugu Talons 30-26 in a highly engrossing match. Maharashtra team won its second consecutive win in the first season of the Premier Handball League.

Two of the most aggressive teams in the Premier Handball League, Telugu Talons and Maharashtra Ironmen, faced each other in the seventh match of the inaugural season of the Premier Handball League. Both the teams tried to get off to a brisk start in the match. For this reason both started playing on the front-foot. Davinder Singh Bhullar, Anil Khudiya and Naseeb looked to combine very well with each other in the beginning to give their team the lead. Igor Chiselyov, Manjit Kumar and Jalal Kiani of Maharashtra Ironmen were passing the ball to each other with great accuracy. Luck, however, was not in his favor as he hit the crossbar thrice in the first 15 minutes of the match.

However, in the 15th minute, Telugu Talons had established a narrow lead. At that point the score was 7-4 in their favor. Ironman, on the other hand, struggled to make the most of the opportunities that came their way. Ironman’s Vijay Thakur slowly progressed in the match and started supporting Chiselov and Kiyani brilliantly. All three attempted to break through the Talons’ defense. By the 20th minute the score was 8-8. In the last 10 minutes of this half, Talon again took the lead. At the end of the first half, the score was 14-12 in favor of Telugu Talons.

The Ironmen were dealt a blow at the start of the second half as Vijay Thakur was shown a straight red card for a foul within a minute of the start of the game. However, the Ironmen bravely faced the challenge of the Talons in spite of this. Ironmen’s Ankit Kumar was looking impressive with the ball in the second half and that’s why his match proved to be Ironmen’s advantage. Both the teams were giving jitters to each other. The match had become an end-to-end affair in the end. By the 45th minute of the match, the Ironmen were ahead of the Talons and the score was 22–20 in their favour.

Players from both the teams were at their best and due to this the match was heading towards a dramatic finish. Players from both the teams were refusing to back down from the challenges posed by the opposition. Ironmen goalkeeper Naveen Deshwal also rose to the occasion and made some crucial saves to keep his team in the lead. Jalal Kiyani, meanwhile, sprung into attack and was scoring with every shot. Despite excellent efforts from Naseeb and Kailash Patel, Telugu Talons were finding it difficult to reduce the score difference and that was the reason why Maharashtra Ironmen won the match 30-26 to hand Telugu Talons their first defeat in the Premier Handball League.

Jalal Kiyani was the top scorer in the match for Ironmen with 9 goals while Naseeb was the top scorer for Telugu Talons with 10 goals. Maharashtra’s Jalal Kiyani was adjudged player of the match for his scintillating attack.
