Making everyone comfortable is the teams culture: Rishabh Pant

Mumbai India’s star wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant shares his thoughts on his debut with the Indian team and how the team welcomed him on his debut after his stellar performance in the 2016 U-19 World Cup.

Pant made his international debut in 2017 in the third match of the three-match T20 series against England at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

Recalling the moment he took his first steps on the international stage, Pant shared the awe that surrounded him in the Star Sports ‘Believe’ series. Rishabh Pant said, “Most of the time I didn’t feel like that. I was surprised in the beginning. You saw them all on TV. But they were all welcoming. Even the super seniors made me comfortable. “

Pant recalled that the senior players played a vital role in making him feel at home and created a cordial environment which is embedded in the team culture. Pant acknowledged the nurturing environment around him and expressed, ” It’s the culture of the team to make everyone comfortable. And when it happens in the beginning, it’s good. Because at the age of 17-18, you don’t know anything about life.”

“Of course you have experiences, I tried to learn as a child. I think all of these things are beneficial, not everyone gets to have this kind of experience. And the things you learn from your experiences help you a lot in life. Your mind starts reading life in the same way. ,

In the debut match, Pant came to the crease during the 19th over and inherited the baton after left-arm fast bowler Tymal Mills dismissed the experienced Yuvraj Singh. In those crucial moments, Pant’s raw talent and fearless approach shone through as he smashed a four through short fine leg, etched his name in the annals of Indian cricket history.

Even though he remained unbeaten on 5 runs from 3 balls, Pant’s contribution was symbolic, a testament to the indomitable spirit of the youth ready to make their mark. In the grand scheme of the match, India posted a mammoth total of 202 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, thanks to half-centuries from the experienced Suresh Raina and the ever-steady MS Dhoni.

The climax came with a brilliant bowling display led by Yuzvendra Chahal, who weaved magic with figures of 4-0-25-6. The opposition team succumbed to the Indian attack and were reduced to 127 runs in 16.3 overs.
