Manoj Tiwari will say goodbye to all forms of cricket after the Ranji Trophy match against Bihar.

Kolkata. Former Indian and Bengal cricketer Manoj Tiwari has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Bihar.

Tiwary, who made his debut for Bengal in 2004, scored almost 10,000 first-class runs, scoring 29 centuries and 45 half-centuries at an average of 48.56. He has scored 5581 runs in 169 List A games at an average of 42.28.

Manoj Tiwary said in a social media post: “Hello everyone, so… it’s time for one last innings! Probably the last time for the long walk to my beloved 22 yards. I will miss everything about it!’

He said, “Thank you for encouraging and loving me for so many years. It would be great if you all come to my favorite Eden Garden tomorrow and the day after to cheer for Bengal. A loyal servant of cricket, yours Manoj Tiwari.

Tiwary had to wait three years after making his debut for India in an ODI against Australia in 2008, before getting some opportunities in 2011 and 2012. In December 2011 in Chennai, he scored his only century in his 12-match ODI career against the West Indies. In 2014, he was recalled for one ODI in Bangladesh after being dropped once again and battling several injuries. He played his final series in Zimbabwe in July that year.

Tiwary played for Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) and Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL.

Manoj Tiwary’s journey in Indian cricket has been like a rollercoaster of ups and downs, marked by moments of promise interspersed with unfortunate setbacks. Hailing from Bengal, Tiwary’s early exploits in domestic cricket attracted attention, particularly his stellar performances in the 2006–07 Ranji Trophy, where he scored 796 runs at an average of 99.50 and broke several records as well.

His long-awaited debut for India was awaited, but fate had other plans. In a cruel twist of fate, Tiwary suffered a serious shoulder injury during fielding practice on the eve of his first match against Bangladesh in Mirpur. This setback led to his international debut being delayed, and when the opportunity finally came against Australia in early 2008, jetlag and the likes of Brett Lee proved to be difficult challenges to overcome.

Despite sporadic opportunities over the years, including a maiden ODI century against the West Indies in 2011, Tiwary found himself struggling with inconsistency and injury problems. Mysterious benching and long spells on the sidelines increased his frustration, as he struggled to secure a permanent place in the national team.

However, Tiwary’s resilience shone through as he continued to fight for his place in the team. Despite the setbacks, he took advantage of every opportunity that came his way, including being included in the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 squad.

Nevertheless, injuries continued to bother him, forcing him to endure a long layoff and period of rehabilitation. It was not until the 2013–14 Vijay Hazare Trophy that Tiwary made a comeback after an eight-month absence, demonstrating his determination to overcome adversity.
