Many new and old faces in 60-member team for women’s hockey camp

60 players, including experienced players like goalkeeper Savita Punia and forward Vandana Kataria, are participating in the seven-day evaluation camp that began here on Monday. After this camp, there will be trials on the basis of which 33 potential players will be selected for the national team. This evaluation camp is being organized at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus.
Trials will be held on April 6 and 7 to narrow the number of probable players to 33 for future coaching camps and international tours. “60 players have been selected on the basis of their performance in the recently concluded Senior Women’s National Championship in Pune,” Hockey India said in a statement. Now the performance of these players will be closely monitored and then 33 potential players will be selected for the Indian women’s hockey team.
All the players will report to women’s hockey team coach Ankita BS, who has been given this responsibility after the resignation of Yanek Shopman. Many new faces are also included among the players selected for the camp.
