Mayank mentality separates him from other young fast bowlers – Vijay Dahiya

New Delhi. Former Indian wicketkeeper and Lucknow Supergiants assistant coach Vijay Dahiya, who played a key role in scouting LSG fast bowler Mayank Yadav, revealed the story during an episode of FanCode’s ‘The Super Over’.

Dahiya said that Mayank does not have much experience as far as being a first-class bowler is concerned. However in this year’s Deodhar Trophy, he has shown everyone what he is capable of. He was bowling over 150 there too, but you want me to go back a little further to see how he came to the field.

Dahiya said in FanCode’s The Super Over that I think I was coaching the UP team in the Ranji Trophy and we were playing in Mohali. And next to our net, the Delhi team was practicing so I was standing there and I saw this kid and slowly I moved towards the Delhi net to see him and he was amazing.

“What I liked about his run-up – you want to put everything in a bracket and see what is there, what is the reason behind it, why is he bowling, how is he bowling? doing. And you know there are some names who were batting in that net experience and it was troubling them in some way and there were some who were in my nets from UP side too and they were compared to those guys. I was looking much better.

Dahiya was so impressed by what he saw that he immediately called the young fast bowler to Lucknow after the net session. He said, “So, I made a few calls immediately after that net session, talked to him and said, we are looking for some more of your Would love to see the video. Not for me, because from what I saw, I immediately said, okay, this guy is coming to Lucknow, and I think we will see him now.

Dahiya further said that he expected Yadav to set the IPL on fire last year, but an injury stopped him. He also cited his mentality as the key factor that sets him apart from other fast bowlers. The Lucknow team was playing some practice matches and he got injured in those practice games and could not play that season. But what a start this is for him. The most impressive thing to me is not just the speed, I think his mentality is what impressed me the most. Because when you see someone bowling, a young player bowling 150-plus, you will see a lot of bouncers. But he used his short pitched balls to his advantage and the mentality of all his outings was to bowl short pitches and create problems for everyone.

Dahiya has confidence in Yadav’s ability. He emphasized on Yadav’s extraordinary talent, strategic mindset and adaptability and highlighted him as a rising star with immense potential in Indian cricket.
