Dubai. The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday confirmed that the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will have reserve days for the semi-finals and final. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be co-hosted by West Indies and USA from June 1 to 29.
A decision to this effect was taken during the ICC annual board meeting in Dubai. The ICC had introduced reserve days for the finals of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 in India after facing much criticism over the lack of such a rule in the previous editions.
During the meeting, the ICC also approved the playing conditions for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and announced the qualification process for the 2026 edition, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
In addition, the ICC has determined that in order to conduct matches in the group stage and Super Eight stage, the team batting second will be required to bowl at least five overs, the ICC said in a release after the annual board meeting. . However, in the knockout rounds, a match will require at least 10 overs to be bowled in the second innings.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 qualification process was also approved on Friday, the 20-team tournament will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka and will have a total of 12 automatic qualifiers.
The top eight teams in the 2024 edition will join India and Sri Lanka as automatic qualifiers, with the remaining places (between two and four, depending on the host finishing position) going to the next best ranked team in the ICC men’s T20 rankings table until 30 June 2024. The remaining eight spots will be filled through regional qualifiers.
