Messi, Mbappé and Benzema nominated for 2022 FIFA Best Men’s Player

Geneva | Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema have been named as finalists for the 2022 FIFA Best Men’s Football Player award. The announcement was made by FIFA, the world body of football, on Friday. Messi captained Argentina to lift the FIFA World Cup trophy after defeating France in a dramatic final in Qatar last year. Messi won the tournament’s Golden Ball, while his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Mbappe won the Golden Boot with eight goals.
Mbappe’s compatriot Benzema won the Ballon d’Or award last year for winning the UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles with Real Madrid, but missed the World Cup due to injury, reports Xinhua news agency.
Spain’s Alexia Puteles, England forward Beth Mead and United States’ Alex Morgan were nominated for the Best Women’s Player award.
The winners of the Best Male and Female Players, Best Male and Female Coaches, Best Male and Female Goalkeepers and Best Goal of 2022 will be announced in Paris on February 27.
