Meta removed more than 1.38 crore bad content from Facebook, Instagram in India in February

New Delhi . Meta said it removed more than 13.8 million pieces of offensive content across 13 Facebook policies and more than 40.8 million pieces of offensive content across 12 Instagram policies in India in February.

In February, Facebook received 18,512 reports through the Indian complaint mechanism and said it provided tools to users to resolve issues in 9,300 cases.

Meta, in its monthly report submitted in compliance with the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, said it has pre-established channels to report content for specific violations, where they can download their data and This includes steps to resolve account hacking issues and more.

“Among the other 9,212 reports where special review was required, we analyzed the content in accordance with our policies and took action on a total of 2,970 complaints. The remaining 6,242 complaints were reviewed but not acted upon,” Meta said.

On Instagram, the company received 12,709 reports through the Indian complaint mechanism.

“Of these, we provided tools to users to resolve their issues in 5,344 cases,” it said.

Of the other 7,365 reports where special review was required, Meta analyzed the content and took action on a total of 2,470 complaints.

The remaining 4,895 reports were reviewed but may not have been acted upon.

Under the new IT Rules 2021, large digital and social media platforms with more than 50 lakh users will have to publish monthly compliance reports.

Meta said, “We measure the number of pieces of content (such as posts, photos, videos or comments) that we take action on when they go against our standards. Taking action may include removing a piece of content from Facebook or Instagram or “May include covering up photos or videos. Some viewers are being harassed by warning.”

In January, Meta removed more than 1.78 crore objectionable content across 13 policies for Facebook and more than 40.8 lakh objectionable content across 12 policies for Instagram.
