After captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s half-century, Mumbai Indians strengthened their position at the top of the points table with their fifth win in five matches after defeating Gujarat Giants by 55 runs on Tuesday. Chasing the target, Gujarat lost the wicket of Sophia Dunkley (0) on the very first ball, which was lbw by Sciver Brunt. Openers S Meghna (16) and Harleen Deol (22) took the innings forward by playing some fine shots. Haley Mathews, however, dismissed Meghna and Annabel Sutherland (00) in the sixth over to reduce Gujarat’s score to 34 for three in the power play.
Isi Wong then lbw Harleen while Amelia Kerr sent Ashleigh Gardner (08) to the pavilion. At this time Gujarat’s score became 48 runs for five wickets in the 10th over. The half-century of Gujarat’s runs was completed in the 11th over. Dylan Hemlata (06) also returned to the pavilion by giving Wong a catch in an attempt to play a big shot off Amelia’s ball.
