Bengaluru. Mitchell Santner equaled Daniel Vettori’s record of taking most wickets in a single edition of the ODI World Cup in the match against Sri Lanka at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.
Barsi Mitchell Santner now has 16 wickets in nine matches at an average of 24.68 and an economy rate of 4.89 in the ongoing edition of the World Cup.
In the 2007 World Cup, Vettori took 16 wickets and set the record for the most wickets by a New Zealand spinner in a single edition of the ODI World Cup.
If New Zealand wins the match on Thursday, it will be very close to securing its place in the semi-finals. At the same time, Santner will be eyeing to break Vettori’s record.
Mitchell Santner completed his spell with figures of 10-2-22-2. This is the second most economical spell of 10 overs in this World Cup. Only Jansen, Zampa and Madushanka have more wickets than Santner in this tournament.
Santner is the joint fourth-highest wicket-taker in the ongoing tournament along with India’s Mohammed Shami.
