More fake accounts out of Musk’s 153 million X followers

San Francisco. Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) account has over 153 million followers, but according to a new report, most of his followers are fake and the number has gone up due to millions of new inactive accounts.

According to a report by tech website Mashable, which reviewed data collected by third-party researcher Travis Browne, “Of the 153,209,283 X accounts following Musk, nearly 42 percent, or more than 65.3 million users, are on his own account.” There are a lot of followers.

The average number of followers across all 153 million accounts following Musk is around 187.

According to the data, only 453,000 Musk followers, or 0.3 percent, subscribe to X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue at $8 a month).

The report revealed that more than 72 percent of these users following Musk, or about 112 million, have fewer than 10 followers on the account.

It added, “Musk has a lot of followers, which will help people make sure they aren’t actually using the site.”

When it comes to content creation, Musk’s more than 62.5 million followers have zero tweets.

According to the data, “more than 100 million Musk followers have posted fewer than 10 tweets on their accounts.” Musk acquired Twitter on October 27, 2022 for $44 billion.

Of all the tech billionaire’s current followers, more than 25 percent, 38.9 million, were created on or after that date.

The average follower count for all 153 million accounts following Musk is only one (1) single follower.

All of the above data points may indicate fake accounts, describe users who are inactive, or ‘hidden’ users who consume content, the report said. It is probably a combination of all three.

As Mashable reports, more than 40 percent of Musk’s followers at or under 50 million have 4 or more numbers in their handle on X.

Tesla’s CEO recently claimed that the X now has over 540 million “monthly users”.
