Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni may be banned from the IPL final to be held on 28 May. Mahi is accused of forcefully arguing with the umpires and wasting time in Qualifier-1. In that match against Gujarat Titans, Dhoni deliberately spent four minutes in conversation so that he could get Mathisha Pathirana to bowl. Earlier this season, he has also been found guilty of slow over rate once. However, no official statement has yet come out in this matter whether action will be taken on Dhoni or not. MS Dhoni was seen talking to field umpires Anil Chaudhary and Chris Gaffney at the edge of the crease after the 15th over. During this the game was halted. No one could understand why there is delay in starting the next over. Meanwhile, TV commentary showed Sri Lanka’s Mathisha Pathirana was off the field for nine minutes. According to the rules, if a player is out for more than four minutes, he cannot bowl until he has spent the same amount of time on the ground. He can’t bowl till then.

The ESPN Cricinfo report also stated that Dhoni was informed by the match officials that Pathirana would have to wait for some more time before bowling. The CSK skipper admitted that he understood but added that he had no option but to give the ball to Pathirana. Dhoni was also reminded that CSK could face financial penalty for slow over-rate and that only four players could be allowed outside the circle if the last over does not start in the stipulated time.

In all this discussion, four minutes passed and Pathirana was allowed to bowl with the permissible time of eight minutes. While Pathirana did not get a wicket in that over. He got a wicket in his very next over. The match tilted in favor of Chennai Super Kings after the wicket of the dangerous Vijay Shankar.
