Mumbai tastes first win with David-Shepherd storm

Mumbai Due to the stormy batting of Tim David (45 not out) and Romario Shepherd (39 not out), Mumbai Indians tasted their first win in the IPL by defeating Delhi Capitals by 29 runs on Sunday.

Mumbai batted brilliantly in the last 5 overs and scored a huge score of 234 runs for 5 wickets in the 20th match of IPL. Delhi chased the target vigorously but due to the target being too big, Delhi ultimately suffered its fourth defeat in five matches. Delhi scored 205 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Mumbai has reached eighth place with its first win in four matches, while Delhi has slipped to last and tenth place.

Finally the Mumbai team has got its first win. Earlier today he made an amazing start in the powerplay. Even though Rohit and Kishan missed the half-century, they had laid the foundation of a big score. After this, the rest of the batsmen also performed amazingly. While bowling, he gave a lot of runs in the powerplay but from there the match became very difficult for Delhi. Prithvi and Stubbs made good efforts from Delhi side but they were not successful in taking their team to victory.

Prithvi Shaw scored 66 runs in 40 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes and Tristan Stubbs scored unbeaten 71 runs in 25 balls with three fours and seven sixes but he did not get any support from the other end. Delhi lost three wickets in the last over of Gerald Coetzee’s innings. Coetzee was most successful with four wickets for 34 runs. Jasprit Bumrah bowled tightly and took two wickets for just 22 runs in four overs. Bumrah bowled Prithvi Shaw on an excellent yorker.

Captain Rishabh Pant’s arrival at number five proved costly for Delhi and Pant became Coetzee’s victim after scoring just one run. Abhishek Porel, who was sent at number three, played slowly and scored 41 runs in 31 balls with the help of five fours.

Earlier, Delhi’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss did not prove correct towards the end of Mumbai’s innings. David and Shepherd destroyed the Delhi bowlers in the last five overs and scored a total of 96 runs. David hit 2 fours and 4 sixes in his unbeaten 45 runs in 21 balls, while Shepherd hit 3 fours and 4 sixes in his unbeaten 39 runs in just 10 balls.

Shepherd scored a total of 32 runs by hitting four sixes and two fours in the last over of Enrique Narcía’s innings, making it the most expensive over of the tournament. This over also proved to be decisive in the end.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave a stormy start to Mumbai by adding 80 runs in 7 overs. Rohit missed his half-century by just 1 run but he hit 6 fours and 3 sixes in his innings of 49 runs in 27 balls. Ishaan also opened his hands completely and hit four fours and two sixes in 42 runs in 23 balls. Both the openers were sent to the pavilion by left arm spinner Akshar Patel.

The comeback of Suryakumar Yadav, who was out for a long time due to injury, was not memorable. He became the victim of Narkia without opening his account in just two balls. Captain Hardik Pandya batted at a slow pace and became Narkia’s second victim, scoring 39 runs in 33 balls with the help of three fours and a six. Tilak Verma was out after scoring 6 runs on the ball of Khalil Ahmed. But after this, David and Shepherd hit fours and sixes and not only took Mumbai beyond 200 but also reached a strong score of 234.

For Delhi, Narkia took 2 wickets for 65 runs in 4 overs, while Akshar Patel took 2 wickets for 35 runs. Khalil Ahmed took one wicket for 39 runs.
