National Games: Maharashtra crosses the mark of 200 medals. Loktej Sports News

Panaji, 8 November (HS). Maharashtra has become the first team to complete a double century of medals in the 37th National Games and continues to top the medal tally with only one day left for the closing ceremony.

Maharashtra’s 200th medal came in the triathlon mixed relay at Miramar Beach on Tuesday when women’s individual winner Mansi Mohite covered up almost two minutes of time in the closing stages of the race and helped her team win with a timing of 1:51.19 seconds. This is Mohite’s fifth gold medal of the Games as he had won gold in the individual event on Sunday before winning three gold medals in the biathlon event of Modern Pentathlon. Her gold medal-winning teammate Parth Miraj ended his campaign with six medals, including four gold and a silver in the Modern Pentathlon.

Maharashtra has won 203 medals including 70 gold, 64 silver and 69 bronze. Defending champions Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) are at the second position with 55 gold medals, while Haryana has narrowed its gap to SSCB with 50 gold medals. Host Goa is currently ranked 12th with a total of 50 medals including 12 gold, 12 silver and 26 bronze.

West Bengal’s Mehuli Ghosh won the gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event with an impressive score of 253.7 at the Manderem Shooting Range. Haryana’s Nancy Mandhotra (251.0) won silver while West Bengal’s Swati Choudhary won bronze medal. Mehuli and Nancy had qualified for the finals by finishing first and second respectively and Narmada Nitin Raju had qualified at third position. However, she finished seventh in the final.

Punjab’s Rajeshwari Kumari led the women’s trap event with a perfect score of 50 in two rounds, while Gujarat’s Bakhtiyaruddin Malek leads the men’s trap event with a score of 49 after the completion of two rounds at the Pernem Shooting Range. On the Chapora River, Madhya Pradesh continued their dominance by winning all four gold medals in the slalom, canoeing and kayaking events today taking their tally of gold medals to 27.

Kerala won all the gold medals for the day in the Kalaripayattu competition at the Campal Sports Village. Kerala won all 11 gold medals, showing its dominance in the oldest traditional martial art form. Haryana defeated neighbors Punjab in a tense shootout to reach the women’s hockey final. They will face Madhya Pradesh, who defeated Jharkhand in another tense shootout, in the final on Wednesday.

In the men’s semi-finals, Karnataka defeated Maharashtra 5-4 in a nine-goal thriller to book their place in the final where they will face Haryana. Haryana defeated Uttar Pradesh by a single goal.

At the Peddem Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, SSCB boxers booked their place in six of the seven finals in the men’s boxing competition. World champion, Sweti Boro, representing Haryana, entered the final of the 70-75 kg category as six boxers from Goa ensured six more medals for the hosts.
