New Delhi: In the javelin throw, Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra started the Diamond League held in Doha with a win on Friday. He has entered the fray with the intention of retaining this title. Chopra (25), who won the Diamond League trophy held in Switzerland in September 2022, threw the javelin at a distance of 88.67 meters in Doha in a best performance this year. Chopra threw the javelin 88.67m in his first attempt, the fourth best performance of his career, and remained on top of the list till the final time. Chopra avenged his loss to Anderson Peters in last year’s World Championship. Peters finished third in the Doha Diamond League 2023 while India’s golden boy Neeraj Chopra was beaten. Neeraj first appeared in the tournament in 2018 and finished fourth. Jakob Vadlejch, the silver medalist against the Czech Republic, came closest to Chopra with a throw of 88.63m, just four centimeters behind his Indian rival. Jacob won a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics. He had won the silver medal in the Diamond League last year in the javelin throw of 90.88 metres.
