Neeraj, Sreeshankar expressed grief over the plight of wrestlers

New Delhi (Best Hindu News): Tokyo Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and Birmingham Commonwealth Games silver medalist Murali Sreeshankar have expressed dismay over the detention of protesting wrestlers by the Delhi Police.
Javelin thrower Neeraj commented on Twitter on Sunday on a video of the wrestlers being taken into custody: “I am deeply saddened to see this. There must be a better way to deal with this. ,
It can be seen in the video that the police are taking the wrestlers into custody using force.
Meanwhile, long jumper Sreesankar termed the Delhi Police’s treatment of the wrestlers as ‘barbaric’.
Sreesankar tweeted, “Extremely barbaric! Our champions did not deserve this. As an athlete who dreams of winning the Olympics, this picture will leave a deep wound (on my mind).”
The wrestlers had planned to march to the new Parliament House and organize a ‘Mahila Mahapanchayat’. This mahapanchayat was to be held with the inauguration of the building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The wrestlers were initially allowed to leave the protest site at Jantar Mantar but as such they could not go beyond the security barricades. The wrestlers could not go beyond the Jantar Mantar road and other protesters including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat were taken into custody.
According to a tweet from Sakshi’s account by her team, the police had also started removing the wrestlers’ tents from the protest site.
It is noteworthy that many well-known wrestlers of the country are demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Brij Bhushan, Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, has been accused of sexually abusing seven women wrestlers, including a minor.
