Former Nepal cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment on Wednesday, January 10, in a rape case. Former captain Sandeep Lamichhane was already convicted in a rape case. After which a Kathmandu court, while hearing the same case, sentenced him to eight years imprisonment. 23 year old Sandeep plays for Nepal cricket and was also a star player of his team. Sandeep Lamichhane has also played IPL. Let us tell you that last year in the month of September 2023, a 17 year old girl had filed a complaint against Sandeep Lamichhane in a police station in Kathmandu. That girl had accused Sandeep Lamichhane of rape. At the time of making this allegation, Sandeep was in West Indies and playing for Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Then when the arrest warrant was issued, Sandeep was ordered to immediately return to the country.

Police traced Sandeep with the help of Interpol

However, Sandeep Lamichhane had absconded after the warrant was issued and his location could not be found. Nepal Police took the help of Interpol to arrest Sandeep. Then Interpol had issued a ‘diffusion’ notice against Sandeep. After waiting for a few days, when Sandeep landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the police arrested him.

Sandeep was released on bail

On the other hand, immediately after the arrest warrant was issued, Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) also suspended Sandeep. However, Sandeep Lamichhane got a big relief in January 2023 and he was released on bail. After that Sandeep Lamichhane again returned to international and franchise cricket. Shortly before his arrest in Kathmandu last year, Lamichhane had written on Facebook that he would cooperate fully at all stages of the investigation and fight a legal battle to prove his innocence. Sandeep had then termed the matter as ‘conspiracy and false allegations’.

Sandeep’s career has been like this

Sandeep Lamichhane has played more than 100 international matches for Nepal at the age of just 23. Sandeep, who started his international career in 2018, has taken 112 wickets in the total 51 ODI matches played so far. At the same time, in T-20 International, this spin bowler has taken 98 wickets in 52 matches.
