Never felt like Kohli was out of form: Sunil Gavaskar

Ahmedabad : As Virat Kohli ends his century drought in the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar said the former captain’s century was not a much-needed achievement as the stylish Indian batsman never looked out of form. Kohli scored 186 off 364 balls, his first hundred in the format since November 2019. India scored 571 in reply to Australia’s 480 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
Gavaskar said on Star Sports, “Every great batsman thinks of 100. A century is the minimum value he puts on his wicket. The way Kohli was batting in the last two and a half years, when he didn’t score a century, he was batting well. Had scored seven or eight half-centuries. So, it never felt like he was out of form. The only thing that was happening was that he was getting out on his first mistake.
Kohli brought up his century in Ahmedabad in 241 balls, his second slowest century after his century against England in 2012/13 series off 289 balls. However, the legendary batsman felt that Kohli paced his innings perfectly. Gavaskar said, “It was the kind of innings how a Test match century should be scored. He started a bit slow where he was trying to understand the pitch and the bowling. Then he played a few shots after being set and then kept trying to play more shots.
