New Delhi. With the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup scheduled to be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America (USA), India are likely to face Pakistan in the group stage of the tournament at the UP Stadium in Long Island, New York.

A report in The Guardian said the International Cricket Council and local organizing committees will sign off on the full schedule on Friday, with the tournament to be held from June 4-30.

Eisenhower Park on Long Island, which could host the India-Pakistan match, will have a 34,000-seat temporary cricket stadium and will feature a large number of people of Indian and Pakistani origin in downtown Manhattan.

“Some changes to the schedule are still possible, but England and Australia will play all their group matches in the Caribbean,” the report said. It is understood that England’s matches in their initial, five-team group and, if they qualify from that, in the Super 8 round will all take place in the British tourist hotspots of Antigua, Barbados and St Lucia, but not the Australian territory. Some other places you can visit are St. Vincent, Guyana and Trinidad.

It further added that ICC inspectors have been visiting Caribbean sites for the past fortnight, culminating in Guyana this week. “Although they found that some improvements and expansion are still necessary, they did not find any significant problems. The venue for the final has not been confirmed but is likely to be held in Barbados, which previously hosted the finals of the 50-over World Cup in 2007 and the T20 event in 2010.

India have not won the Men’s T20 World Cup since lifting the trophy in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007. They reached the final in the 2014 edition of the tournament in Bangladesh, but lost to Sri Lanka by six wickets in the title match.

England are the defending champions of the tournament, having won the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia by defeating Pakistan in the final at the MCG. In the tournament, 20 teams will be divided into four groups of five each for the first round. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super Eight stage. In the Super Eights, teams will be divided into two groups of four each, with the top two teams from the two groups advancing to the semi-finals.

Along with hosts West Indies and the United States, Australia, defending champions England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh have already qualified for the competition.

Ireland, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Nepal, Oman, Namibia and Uganda will participate in the tournament after earning qualification through their respective regional qualifying tournaments.
