New Zealand defeated South Africa by 281 runs on the fourth day of cricket test – Dainik Savera Times

With four wickets from Kyle Jamieson and three wickets from Mitchell Santner, New Zealand bundled out South Africa’s second innings for 247 runs. Earlier, after scoring 511 runs in the first innings, New Zealand had bowled out South Africa for 162 runs and took a lead of 349 runs. Southee then decided not to follow on and veteran Kane Williamson, who had scored a century in the first innings, scored a century in the second innings as well.

This was his 31st century in Test. Chasing the target, South Africa lost the wickets of openers Neil Brand (three) and Edward More (zero) in the first four overs. Zubair Hamza (36) and Renard van Tonder (31) batted for over 100 minutes as South Africa reached lunch without any further loss.

Immediately after lunch, both of them were out on the bowling of Kyle Jamieson after playing irresponsible shots. David Bedingham took the team’s fight forward by playing a career-best inning of 87 runs in 96 balls. He also made a partnership of 105 runs for the fifth wicket with Keegan Pietersen (16). Bedingham aggressively faced the shot balls of New Zealand’s fast bowlers and hit 13 fours and one six in his innings.

During the presence of both of them at the crease, it seemed that the match would drag on to the fifth day but in the last session of the day, Bedingham became Jamieson’s third victim. After this, Jamieson also showed Pietersen the way to the pavilion. Wicketkeeper Clyde Fortuin was out of luck. After Glenn Phillips’ ball hit his bat, the shot hit the knee of Tom Latham standing at leg and went into the gloves of wicketkeeper Tom Blundell.

Mitchell Santner bowled it out to the tail batsmen. Most of the players of South Africa’s regular team are playing in the ‘SA20’ league, due to which six of their players got a chance to debut in this match. Rachin Ravindra, who scored a double century in the first innings of the match, was the man of the match. The second test match of the series will be played from 13 February.
