Hyderabad | Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has lauded Kolkata Knight Riders leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy for saving nine runs in the last over, saying it was a situation in which the chasing team is considered more likely to win.
Chasing a target of 172 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad looked to be in a strong position for a while thanks to a 47-ball 70 partnership between Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram. But the pair’s dismissal and Varun Chakravarthy’s superb bowling helped Hyderabad manage to manage 166/8 and lose their sixth match in a row.
Brett Lee was quoted by Geo Cinema as saying, “Nine runs, nine times out of 10 the team chasing the target would have got it. There was only one ball that could have gone for a six but it turned out to be a wicket ball.” Well done but poor batting performance from Hyderabad.”
Former Indian wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel criticized Hyderabad, saying that they were looking for a DLS win when they could have easily won it outright.
Parthiv said, “Kolkata won this match with their bowling changes. They trusted Varun Chakraborty for the last over.”
Former Indian opener Robin Uthappa questioned Hyderabad’s batting saying, “They just fell apart in the end. They left too much for Abdul Samad in the end.”
