Nitya, Nitesh register victories in Brazil para-badminton international tournament

Eighteen-year-old Nitya won the gold medal by defeating Peru’s Giuliana Poveda Flores 22-20 21-11 in the ‘SH Six’ women’s singles final. He teamed up with Sivarajan Solaimalai in the mixed doubles final of the same category to beat Hong Kong’s Chu Man Kai and Choi Wing Kei 21-11 21-17.
India’s Nitya Sri Sumati Sivan produced a stellar performance to bag two gold medals at the Brazil Para-Badminton International here. Eighteen-year-old Nitya won the gold medal by defeating Peru’s Giuliana Poveda Flores 22-20 21-11 in the ‘SH Six’ women’s singles final. He teamed up with Sivarajan Solaimalai in the mixed doubles final of the same category to beat Hong Kong’s Chu Man Kai and Choi Wing Kei 21-11 21-17. Competitors with short stature take part in the ‘SH Six Category’.
Tokyo Paralympic champions Pramod Bhagat and Sukant Kadam also won gold in men’s doubles after defeating Korean pair of Joo Dongjae and Shin Kyung Hwan 22-20 21-19 in the final of ‘SL 3-SL 4’ category. The ‘SL 3 – SL 4’ category consists of players with severe/moderate lower limb weakness but able to play while standing. Bhagat also settled for silver in men’s singles after losing 12-21 13-21 to compatriot Kumar Nitesh in the ‘SL 3’ category, while Sukant settled for bronze.
Among other Indians, Tarun had to settle for a silver after losing 7-21 13-21 to Lucas Mazur of France in the final, while Manasi Joshi also lost 11-21 21-18 0-21 to Turkey’s Halim Tildij in the final. Had to face defeat. The men’s pair of Chirag Baretha and Raj Kumar also failed to overcome the challenge of Malaysian pair of Muhammad Fariz Anuar and Cheah Leek Hou in the SU five final.

Thulasimathi Murugesan won the women’s singles ‘SU five’ final by defeating France’s Maud Lefort 21-12 21-18.
