Not surprised by winning record 24th Grand Slam: Novak Djokovic – Dainik Savera Times

New York: Common tennis lovers were under the impression that Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer would now leave the stage to new players and the world would see new champions in the Grand Slam tournaments. Federer has retired and Nadal has missed most tournaments this season due to a hip problem, but Djokovic has maintained his dominance even at the age of 36.

Djokovic won a record 24th Grand Slam title by defeating Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the US Open final on Sunday. He has now reached parity with female tennis player Margaret Court in terms of winning the most Grand Slams in tennis history. With this victory, Djokovic has again become the world number one player.

Djokovic was asked if he did not find it unusual to continue his old performance even against the new generation, he said, “No, not at all.” And no one should be surprised by this. He said, “It may sound arrogant to say this but I am really not surprised because I know how much hard work, how much dedication and how much energy I have put into this.

So I know I deserve it. I always had confidence in myself and my abilities, my skills. “So to be honest, I’m not really surprised because I feel good,” Djokovic said. I am physically fit and preparing like before. Djokovic has a record of 23–1 in Grand Slam tournaments in 2023. He meanwhile had lost to 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final.

Djokovic defeated 24-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Australian Open final in January and Casper Ruud, another 24, in the French Open final in June. Now, by defeating 27-year-old Medvedev in the final of the US Open, he presented a brilliant example of his strength even at an advanced age. “Age is just a number,” Djokovic said. If I am still at the peak of my game then I don’t even want to think about saying goodbye to tennis. I don’t even want to think about that.
