Now playing online gaming will cost money

According to the information, it can be approved in the GST Council meeting to be held on 11th July. However, Goa is demanding a reduction in this tax rate and is not agreeing to 28 per cent GST. The GoM has approved the imposition of 28 per cent GST on all three games.

Group of Ministers (GoM) to examine tax issues on casinos, racecourses and online gaming have agreed on 28% GST. The GoM wants to levy 28% GST on all these three games. On July 11, the council headed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman can also decide whether these three will come under the purview of betting and gambling or not.

Goa suggested levying a 28 per cent tax on the total gaming revenue of casinos. Along with this, it says that 18 percent GST should be imposed on the platform fees and service charges levied by the platform operators. Goa also suggested that contribution to the reward pool should be treated as a supply and not attract GST.

Maharashtra and Telangana said that if the GST Council decides that all three activities do not fall under the actionable claims of betting and gambling, then GGR should be taxed at 28 per cent. Maharashtra said that all three supplies should be taxed at the rate of 28 per cent. There should be no distinction in the name of skill or anything else.
