Wellington: In the second and last match of the two-Test series, England have tightened their grip on New Zealand. New Zealand are still 24 runs behind England’s total while playing the follow-on on the third day. In the match, England declared the innings at a blistering 435/8 while batting first. In response, the host Kiwi batsmen succumbed and were reduced to just 209 runs. In such a situation, England captain Stokes decided to follow on. During the batting for the second consecutive time, a ball of Jack Leach in the second innings has become a reason for discussion all around.
Left arm spinner Jack Leach did the job for William Young with a superb ripper. The fourth ball of the 62nd over fell on a superb length, which went straight into the stumps waving in the air as soon as it hit the crease. Will Young Length came to bat at number four, before he could understand anything, his work was done. In the second innings where he got out after scoring 8 runs, he was able to run for only 2 runs in the first innings.
Earlier, England strengthened their position in the rain-affected second Test match after a brilliant performance by the bowlers led by experienced James Anderson (3/37) after big centuries from Harry Brook and Joe Root. Due to rain only 65 overs could be played on the first day, but even then England had scored 315 runs for three wickets.
Harry Brook played a tremendous inning of 186 runs while Root scored 153 not out. The two shared a 302-run partnership for the fourth wicket as England declared their first innings at 435 for eight. In the first innings, New Zealand were limited to just 209 runs, so now they are playing follow-on to save their honour.
