Patiala. The Central Athlete Injury Management System (CAIMS) of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) helped Olympian boxer Vikas Krishnan get a quick evaluation and surgery for the injury he sustained at a boxing evaluation camp.
Vikas, who is part of the ongoing boxing national camp at the SAI NSNIS Patiala Centre, suffered an injury to his left distal biceps tendon during a sparring session on June 23, following which he was called to get clarity on the status of his injury. The team doctor recommended him to undergo an MRI.
An MRI confirmed that Vikas had sustained a distal biceps injury in his left biceps and his case was referred to CAIMS for further advice.
CAIMS suggested consultation where immediate surgery was advised for a quick and speedy recovery.
In such a situation, Vikas underwent surgery on June 29 and he will be discharged from the hospital on Saturday.
The entire cost of his treatment and rest has been borne by SAI and the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) under the National Campers Insurance Scheme.
Vikas’s father Krishna Kumar expressed his gratitude towards SAI and BFI while talking to SAI’s media team. He said, “SAI and BFI have left no stone unturned to help me and my son during this time, be it reaching the insurance company or liaising with them, they helped us at every step. I am really grateful to them.” Everything they have done and made it very easy for us to manage this tough test.”(IANS)
