New Delhi | Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly said his team’s win in their first of six IPL matches on Thursday was akin to winning their first Test. He said that the boys in his team are trying to see how they can bat better. Captain David Warner’s crucial half-century (57 off 41) handed Delhi Capitals their first win of the season after an impressive performance from their bowlers. The team defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by four wickets.

Good bowling from Akshar Patel (2/13), Kuldeep Yadav (2/15), Ishant Sharma (2/19) and Anrich Nortje (2/20) helped DC bundle out KKR for 127 in 20 overs.

In reply, Warner got DC off to a great start. Although the KKR spinners turned the tide in the middle overs, the hosts eventually won with three balls to spare.

After the four-wicket win, Ganguly said, “I was thinking it’s like my first Test, happy to make a mark! We have bowled well this season.

However, he was not entirely happy with his team’s batting performance.

“These are good pitches and fast outfields, but the problem is the batting. We need to look at ourselves how we can do better. Nortje has performed brilliantly. Good to see Ishant Sharma and Mukesh Kumar. I wouldn’t say it’s an inexperienced line-up, many of them have been playing for a long time.

Delhi Capitals captain David Warner was also happy to win his first match in IPL 2023 and make a mark.

Warner said after the match, it is very good to get two points. We are proud of the bowling unit. We asked for wickets in the power-play, and they did just that. we played a good game

Veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who took two wickets for 19 runs in four overs, was named player of the match. Sharma said that he was looking forward to the opportunity to play his first match in IPL 2023.

He said after the match, I was just waiting for my chance. That’s just what I was thinking. Every day the field (of bowling) changes, we talk about plans. There is no lucky charm in the team. We want to win every single game.
