Mullanpur: Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu reflected on Rishabh Pant’s wonderful comeback to cricket after a fatal car accident, saying that Indian cricket got its finest gem back. Pant made a much-awaited return to cricket in December 2022 after recovering from a near-fatal car accident and injuries.

When he took the field for Delhi Capitals in the match against Punjab Kings during IPL 2024 on Saturday, the fans welcomed him with thunderous applause.

Sidhu said on Star Sports Cricket Live, ‘When this accident happened, I saw the picture of the car. Everything was burnt, and there were no vehicles at the scene. How can one survive that kind of horrific accident? After that, we were guessing whether the operations would be successful, but everything went well for him.

‘During the physiotherapy process when the plaster is removed, your body does not move at all which is a very painful experience for anyone.’

The 26-year-old, who captains the Delhi-based franchise, scored 18 runs off 13 balls, performed a smart stumping and took a catch behind the wicket. However, Delhi’s new season started with a four-wicket defeat against Punjab in its first match.

‘From that situation, he is now out here and leading Delhi Capitals, running between the wickets and playing good cricket. It is just a matter of time that he will regain his form but the important thing is that Indian cricket has got its best batsman back.

Delhi Capitals will now take on Rajasthan Royals on March 28 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
