Only Virat can tell why he gave up Test captaincy: Sourav Ganguly

New Delhi (Best Hindu News): Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has said that the board was not ready to give up the captaincy of the Indian Test team to Virat Kohli.
Ganguly’s latest comments come after fans demanded the reinstatement of Kohli as India’s Test captain following the Rohit Sharma-led side’s 209-run defeat to Australia in the World Test Championship final. However, Kohli hasn’t been at his best with the bat in Test cricket in the last three years.
Ganguly told Aaj Tak in an interview after the WTC final, “The BCCI was not ready to give up the Test captaincy to Virat Kohli. It was also unexpected for us after the tour of South Africa. Only Virat Kohli can tell why he gave up the captaincy. There is no point in talking about it because Virat Kohli had given up the Test captaincy. The selectors had to appoint India’s captain and Rohit was the best option at that time.”
Kohli ended his tenure as Indian captain as the fourth most successful captain in Test history with 40 wins and 11 draws in 68 matches. The 34-year-old is behind only Graeme Smith, Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh in the list of captains with most Test wins.
