London . Sixth seed Ons Jabour of Tunisia beat two-time former champion Petra Kvitova, while second seed Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova, as both reached the women’s singles quarter-finals here on Monday.

In a Center Court match between top 10 players, Jabour defeated No. 9 seed Kvitova of the Czech Republic in a one-sided fashion, 6–0, 6–3, in her Round of 16 encounter.

Jabour, who reached her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon last year, took only 63 minutes to defeat Kvitova for only the second time in their six career encounters. Jabour entered the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the third year in a row with this win.

Jabour’s win sets up a rematch of last year’s Wimbledon final as Jabour will aim for revenge in the quarterfinals, where she will face No. 3 seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan.

In last year’s Wimbledon final, Rybakina defeated Jabour after Jabour won the opening set. He has split his total of four career tackles.

Sabalenka took another step toward a maiden Wimbledon title on Monday with a win against Ekaterina Alexandrova on the No. 1 court.

After enduring a tough opening set, the second set was a one-sided affair as the world number two stormed back to the quarter-finals with a 6-4, 6-0 win in 71 minutes. With this win, she will face American Madison Keys in the last eight.

Sabalenka, the 25-year-old Australian Open champion, was looking in great touch and produced another impressive performance, cementing her position as one of the favorites for the title.

Alexandrova entered the match with a 3–2 win over Sabalenka in their previous two encounters, the most recent of which came on grass courts in the Netherlands last summer.

But, after winning her first Grand Slam title in Australia in January, Sabalenka produced her best tennis performance when it mattered most as she reached the quarterfinals. (IANS)
