Pair of Satwik and Chirag reached semi-finals of China Masters

The men’s pair of Asian Games champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered the semi-finals of the China Masters Super 750 badminton tournament with a straight games win over Indonesia’s Leo Roli Carnando and Daniel Martin here on Friday. The top-seeded Indian doubles pair defeated the Indonesian pair ranked 13th in the world 21-16 21-14 in 46 minutes.
Satwik and Chirag, who won Indonesia Super 1000, Korea Super 500 and Swiss Super 300 this year, will face the challenge of the Chinese pair in the last four. In the quarterfinal match between the two Chinese pairs, He Ji Ting and Ren Jiang Yu will face eighth seeds Liu Yu Chen and Ou Juwan Yi. The former world-ranked Indian pair showed excellent coordination in their game. Both kept changing their positions continuously and by delivering heavy blows in between, they put the Indonesian pair under pressure. After the first break the score was tied at 14-14 but after that the Indian pair increased their pace. During this, Chirag showed excellent understanding of the shuttle and the boundary lines of the court and made the score 19-16 in his favor. He won the first game for India with two more crushing blows. The Indian pair was successful in continuing the momentum achieved at the end of the first game in the second game. After taking a 5-2 lead, he showed excellent control at the net and took an 11-6 lead at the break. Even after a short break, the Indian pair did not give any chance to the Indonesian players and maintained their dominance with the score of 17-10.
After this, there was a long rally of 48 shots between the two pairs which was won by Indonesia with an amazing smash by Martin. Martin hit another hard hit but this time the shuttle hit the net, giving the Indian pair seven match points and they made no mistake in converting it in the first attempt with the help of video referral.
