Fakhar misses out on scoring fourth consecutive century
New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first. Fakhar Zaman had scored centuries in three consecutive ODIs for Pakistan. But he could not do wonders in this match. He became the victim of Matt Henry after scoring 19 runs. After the first wicket fell for 37 runs, Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam took over the innings. Both the batsmen made fifty and added 108 runs for the second wicket.
In the 29th, Babur also became a victim of Henry. Imam-ul-Haq had a chance to score a century, but after playing an innings of 90 runs, he was bowled by Adam Milne. He hit 7 fours and a six in his 107-ball innings. Mohammad Rizwan scored 32 off 34 balls while Agha Salman scored 31 off 29 balls and added 54 runs for the 5th wicket. In the end, Shadab Khan took Pakistan to 287 runs by playing an unbeaten inning of 21 runs in 10 balls. Matt Henry got 3 while Milne got two wickets for New Zealand.
New Zealand’s middle order failure
New Zealand’s Will Young and Tom Blundell got off to a good start. Both added 83 runs off 93 balls for the first wicket. But apart from Cole McConchie in the middle order, no one could stand at the crease. Daryl Mitchell, who scored a century in both the opening matches, could score only 21 runs. Captain Tom Latham scored 45 runs off the bat. McConchie scored 64 off 45 balls in his debut ODI but New Zealand were bundled out for 261 in the last over. In his last 6 batsmen only McConchi could reach the figure of ten. Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Junior took 2-2 wickets for Pakistan.
