Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi urged India to tour Pakistan in September 2023 for the upcoming Asia Cup to be held in Pakistan. Afridi believes that it is important to work towards improving the ties between the two countries and cricket can be a good option to start.
Talking to the media during the Legends League Cricket (LLC) in Doha, Afridi said, ‘It would have been really nice if India had come. It would have been a step towards cricket for India and towards Pakistan. This is not the generation of wars. and quarrels. We want the relationship to be better”.
Afridi also said that everyone knows that India has a very strong cricket board. So BCCI should take more responsibility and work towards normalizing the relations between two cricketing nations.
Talking about the security concern, Afridi said that based on its past record, we all know that security is the biggest concern for Pakistan and because of this, many countries do not like to travel to this South Asian country. “As far as security in Pakistan is concerned, we had several international teams visit us recently,” he said. We used to face security threats from India as well, but if the government of both the countries gives permission then the tour will happen. The tour doesn’t happen, we will give those people a chance. They want no cricket between them.”
Afridi concluded by saying that the main thing is that we never talk about the solution to the problem. Politicians discuss but never solve the issue. “It would have been better if India had come to Pakistan. We and our governments want better relations with each other.”
