trouble with rain
According to a report by news agency PTI, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is considering a change in the venue of the Super Four matches of the Asia Cup in view of heavy rains in Colombo. Five Super Four matches and the final are scheduled in Colombo from September 9, but the weather shows no signs of abating. In that context, the ACC is currently engaged in discussions with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and tournament hosts Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding a possible change of venue.
Matches can be shifted to this stadium
PTI has been informed that three places are under consideration – Pallekele, Dambulla and Hambantota. The six participating teams have also been informed about a possible change in venue. Pallekele is currently hosting the Asia Cup league matches, but the chances of rain are high in the hill town. Dambulla is about 70 kilometers from Pallekele, and the former city has very little chance of rain.
Such trouble can come in Dambulla
An SLC official said that the Rangiri International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla may not be ready to host so many matches in such a short span of time. The weather in Hambantota is currently the best in Sri Lanka and the ACC is evaluating the readiness of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium to host Asia Cup matches. ACC has a few more days to take a final decision. Colombo is to host the matches from September 9. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board also does not want to leave this event at the mercy of the weather.
