New Delhi. A Bilawal Bhutto-led committee appointed by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will meet on Thursday to decide on the country’s participation in the ODI World Cup, starting in India on October 5.
The committee, headed by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, also includes Sports Minister Ahsan Mazari, Maryam Aurangzeb, Asad Mahmood, Amin ul Haq, Qamar Zaman Kaira and former diplomat Tariq Fatmi.
They are expected to ask the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the host Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow a security delegation to visit the venues where the Pakistan team will play, said a report in Cricbuzz.
“A high-profile meeting will decide on participation in the World Cup,” a top PCB official was quoted as saying.
The report further states that the BCCI has held talks with the PCB regarding possible revision of the schedule of some matches involving the Pakistan team, including the much-anticipated match against India.
Last week, reports said that BCCI officials, during their meeting with the representatives of the state venues hosting the ODI World Cup in the national capital, discussed changing the date of the India-Pakistan match from October 15, as it Navratri was colliding from the first day of the festival.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had also confirmed that there will be some changes in the 2023 ODI World Cup schedule and the revised version will be finalized in consultation with the ICC in a few days.
