Paris Olympics: Boxing federation, REC host elite training camp ahead of qualification tournament

New Delhi. To boost preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games later this year, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in collaboration with Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC) has organized an exclusive Multinational Training Camp at the Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports in Patiala. The program has been organized.
The 13-day dynamic camp, which began on January 29 and will continue till February 10, has been organized to give the boxers much-needed international experience ahead of the crucial Olympic qualifiers.
Asian Games and World Championships 2022 bronze medalist Parveen (57kg), and men’s World Championships bronze medalists Deepak Bhoria (51kg), Mohammad Hussamuddin (57kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) are among the 30 Indian boxers. Of which 13 are women. Seven male and five female boxers from England are also included in the camp while soon four male boxers from Russia will also join the camp.
Hemant Kumar Kalita, General Secretary, Boxing Federation of India, said, “The Boxing Federation of India and REC are committed to the development of Indian boxing and the multinational camp is an important step in that direction as it provides international exposure to the players, thereby enhancing the career of boxing. The level is higher.”
“The camp will also boost their preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics. It provides a unique opportunity to our athletes to hone their skills, learn new things and inculcate a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship,” he said.
The multinational camp provides an ideal platform for Indian boxers to prepare for the Olympic Games qualification tournament as they will work on honing their skills while training with international boxers.
Reigning national champion Anamika (50kg), Sonia Lather (57kg), Jasmine (60kg) and Pooja Rani (75kg) are the other Indian women boxers participating in the camp. Among men, 2022 Asian Games bronze medalist Narendra (92+kg) and defending national champion Shiv Thapa (63.5kg), Lakshya Chahar (80kg) and Sanjeet (92kg) are part of the camp.
Apart from the multinational camp, BFI in collaboration with REC is also organizing open talent hunt programs to discover and nurture India’s next boxing heroes.
The Southern Open Talent Hunt program will be held from February 2 to 18 at Sri Jayaprakash Narayan National Youth Training Centre, Bengaluru.
