Budapest: India’s Parul Chowdhary has qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics by setting a new national record in the 3000m steeplechase final at the World Athletics Championships 2023. Parul finished 11th in the final at the National Athletics Center on Sunday but clocked 9:15.31 to break the seven-year-old national record set by Lalita Babar (9:19.76) at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
For the Paris Olympic qualification, the players had to complete the race in 9 minutes 23 seconds and on the basis of her career best performance, Parul also booked the ticket to Paris. Earlier, Parul ran five seconds faster than her previous personal best (9.29.51) in the qualification round to qualify for the final with a fifth-place finish.
In recent years, he has benefited greatly from the coaching program set up by American coach Nick Simmons. She set a new national record in 5000m earlier this year and won gold in 3000m steeplechase at the Asian Championships earlier this year.
